city tours

Do you suffer from anxiety while traveling or going for a city tour among countries? While in the UAE, you won’t have to worry about anything.

A collection of seven cities within one large country, the United Arab Emirates (or UAE) has quickly begun to top many bucket lists of millions of visitors over the past couple of decades. Its popularity has only grown as cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi developed, adding huge glass skyscrapers, impressive hotels, shopping malls, beach resorts and all kinds of attractions for couples, families and individuals. Add the year-round sunshine, amazing scenery and welcoming people and it’s easy to see why visitors keep coming back year after year. But each individual Emirate has a unique offering to explore.

The country is extremely safe, especially for women traveling alone. Furthermore, it provides hotels such as Jumeirah Emirates Towers hotel in Dubai and Dukes Dubai with female-only floors staffed only by female staff.

UAE consists of seven independent city-states, which are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al Quwain.

While many people may have only heard of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the five other Emirates are worth visiting if you get the chance.

Some highlights include The Louvre (the sister museum of the one in Paris), the world’s largest carpet, diving for pearls, the world’s longest zipline, the Warner Brothers amusement park, and more!

Things to keep in mind:

  • The UAE can get pretty toasty, so the best time to visit is between October and April. Temperatures this time of year typically require a light jacket.
  • If you want to visit the beach, plan your trip in October, March, or April when the weather is hot but still pleasant. UAE tends to see a spike in tourism these months so plan ahead of time and book in advance.
  • Summer (May to September) in the United Arab Emirates means hot temps causing all of the locals to move their activities indoors. If you love shopping or want to visit the UAE for some inside action, these are the best months to do so. Just don’t plan on having a vacation full of outdoor adventures!

RAS AL KHAIMAH

With over 7,000 years of fascinating history and culture, Ras Al Khaimah is the perfect getaway from everyday life. Offering magnificent landscapes, ranging from the Hajar mountains, rolling sand dunes, coastal strips, salt flats, mangroves ,breathtaking coastlines and rich, terracotta desert planes, the emirate has firmly established itself as one of the most authentic destinations in the Middle East and an upcoming tourism hub. Just 45 minutes from the busy metropolis of Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah offers an entirely unique experience from its neighbouring emirates.

The emirate is also home to one of the best-preserved traditional fishing villages in the Arabian Gulf, Al Jazirah Al Hamra, and the only hilltop fort still in existence in the UAE, the 18th century Dhayah Fort.

There are sulfur springs near the mountain areas and the emirate is home to a diverse range of wildlife that includes foxes, jerboas and hundreds of bird species.

The site also offers several other adventure attractions and has the highest restaurant in the UAE. Ras Al Khaimah was named Gulf Tourism Capital for both 2020 and 2021 by the Gulf Cooperation Council.

One of the oldest parts of the UAE in terms of human inhabitation, Ras Al Khaimah is also home to its highest peak, Jabal Jais. Standing 1,934 meters high, it is the site of the world’s longest zipline certified by Guinness World Records.

This is its main tourist attraction, but also worth visiting are the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah situated in an old palace, plus its historic forts and impressive sand dunes.

FUJAIRAH

The emirate of Fujairah lies along the Gulf of Oman on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates. The entire emirate of Fujairah is 1,488 square kilometres and is made up of 2 main cities (Fujairah and Dibba Al Fujairah) and six main areas (Masafi, Murbeh, Qidfa, Al Bithna, Al Siji, Al Bidyah). Although Fujairah may be a smaller emirate, it is the only one that lies on the Indian Ocean. For this reason, it has become a very popular vacation site for many residents of other emirates, as well as countless tourists.

In Fujairah, the beaches extend for miles in an uninterrupted state of peace. With its beautiful calm waters and quiet beaches, people from all over come here to relax in the sun and sand. There are, however, plenty of options if you want to get out on the water. The island offers many places to hire jet skis and banana boats for those who want a bit of speed and the feeling of the sea breeze in their hair.

However, there are plenty of options if you wish to take things slower. For example, fishing has been a significant part of the economy for centuries, and to this day, UAE nationals are still deeply connected to the sea. If you are a fishing enthusiast, you can choose from a variety of options, such as bottom fishing or trolling. The city is also one of the best places to go snorkeling and diving in the UAE.

Fujairah is home to a range of world-class hotels and resorts suitable for every need and taste. Located in a mountainous area, both Novotel Fujairah and Le Méridien Al Aqah Beach Resort offer outstanding service and panoramic views of the mountains. Guests at Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort can also book diving or snorkeling adventures at the diving centre.

SHARJAH

Sharjah tends to be seen as an extension of Dubai, which is its closest neighbour. As a fishing port and a stopover on UK’s Empire air routes, it has now blossomed into a modern city that keeps its heritage alive. The Minars and Dome-like structures of each authoritative building will mesmerize you!

Tourist numbers are on the rise and recent projects like the Al Qasba canal, ferris wheel and the redeveloped Al Majaz Waterfront are attracting more people. Hotel and resort options are plentiful in Sharjah, as are a number of cultural and family tourist attractions, like the 16 museums that the city has to offer.

Exploring Sharjah is like taking a heritage stroll through stunning souks, ancient mosques, a romantic waterfront, and luxurious heritage buildings. Innumerable attractions can be found in Sharjah.
